Get Out: Flying Squirrels, Pop-up Boutique and More

The weekend is here! How are you going to spend it in Georgetown and Arlington?

When/Where: 6 to 7 p.m. at the Long Branch Nature Center at 625 S. Carlin Springs Road, Arlington.

Why Go: For children and adults. After an indoor presentation, watch Arlington’s flying squirrels glide in for an evening meal.

2. Boxwood Basics Gardening Class

When/Where: 10 a.m. Saturday at Tudor Place, 1644 31st St. NW, Washington.

Why Go: Since it is cold outside, spend some time thinking about warm sunny days out in the garden. This class led by expert Robert Saunders, of Saunders Brothers Nursery, will offer an in-depth lecture on boxwood care.

Price: Members: $10, Nonmembers: $12

3. Yorktown High School Crew Row for Humanity

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Ballston Common Mall, 4238 Wilson Blvd., Arlington

Why Go: The event raises funds for both Habitat for Humanity and the Yorktown High School Crew Team, with more then 100 high school students participating, according to Habitat for Humanity's website. The event is part of National Row for Humanity Day. In 2011, Row for Humanity donated more than $30,000 for Habitat for Humanity organizations across the country.

Price: Fundraiser.

4. Rachmaninoff by the Cathedral Choral Society

When/Where: 4 p.m. Sunday at the Washington National Cathedral,
3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington.

Why Go: Listen to the district's oldest choral ensemble perform Rachmaninoff's masterpiece Solemn Vespers, Op. 37 in the original Old Church Slavonic.

Price: Ticket prices start at $31.

5. Lights, Camera, Fashion Pop-up Boutique

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m Friday and Saturday at 1533 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington.

Why Go: Sift through a collectin of more than 1,000 articles of donated designer clothing that line the walls of the Lights, Camera, Fashion pop-up store in Georgetown. The event benefit local nonprofit Stone Soup Films.
