Lululemon Defends Online Model Choice

'We do not select the model based on the garment color.'

The Men’s Pacific Run Long Sleeve Top on Lululemon's website is turning a few heads, not for its craftmanship and style, but for what happens when you click to see the shirt in "black." Not only does the shirt color change to a heather black, but the model changes from a white male to an African-American male.

But a spokesman says "we use multiple models for each style and do not select the model based on the garment color; product is chosen strictly based on what is available during each individual photo shoot."

The shirt is available in five colors, "black" is the only color where the model is different.

Why is this even a story? On the same site, both of the models above are seen wearing a wide range of colours across all of their products. You wouldn't run an article about a black model wearing blue or plum, would you? You know, the white model is shown wearing a white t-shirt...and yet, nobody would think twice about that. It's just a guy in a shirt, people! Grow up.

Fair enough, Bob. A user pointed it out to a Patch editor as an odd choice and when Lululemon decided to respond to our inquiry, we thought it was worth sharing.

because the vast majority of "black" males are from the Black region? #Being_Overly_PC_Is_Stupid

I think the whole story should have been told, including the fact that the five year basic tee includes the white guy wearing the black shirt and the black guy wearing the heathered slate colors. This story cries racism where there is no evidence to support a racist outcry against Lululemon!
