Nearly 1,000 Georgetown PEPCO Customers Without Power

A storm that blew through Georgetown and the District has left residents without power.

Nearly 1,000 PEPCO customers in Georgetown were withouth power just before 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the utility company's outage map.

One user on the "See, Click, Fix" website reported that a tree down at 33rd and N Streets in Georgetown was blocking vehicular traffic. DC's 311 service responded that crews had been notified.

The District Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) Urban Forestry Administration (UFA) is preparing to remove downed trees, branches and debris from District streets and neighborhoods, according to a press release early Saturday morning. "Crews are inspecting locations tonight to determine where contractors will set up to conduct this activity. Due to the power outrages and downed wires tree cleaning activities will be slow at first until daylight," according to the release.

According to the National Weather Service, the line of storms carried destructive winds in excess of 80 mph.

Measured wind gusts include 71 mph at Washington Dulles International Airport and 70 mph at Reagan National Airport. The weather service has received numerous reports of downed trees and power lines.
