One Lucky Couple Won 'Get Hitched in Georgetown'

The Georgetown Business Improvement District held the second annual 'Get Hitched in Georgetown' competition last night.

Megan Barber and Matt Hollis are a very lucky couple.

They beat 74 other engaged couples in a competition to win a $10,000 wedding package.

The wedding package is sponsored by 15 Georgetown businesses as part of the second annual ‘Get Hitched in Georgetown’.

Thursday night, couples competed in wedding-themed games on the lawn of Grace Church at 1041 Wisconsin Ave. NW to win the package, which included vouchers for items like 100 individually wrapped cupcakes and a $4,500 bridal gown.

The competitions were musical chairs, a groom-only round of tug-of-war, a boutonniere throwing, and a ‘make your dress competition,’ in which couples had to competed to construct the best bridal gown out of tinfoil, bubble wrap and plastic wrap.

Couples also had to stand back to back with their significant other in the “Nearly Wed’-style game and answer two sided questions about the other by holding up a shoe in one hand signifying an answer.

Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID) planned “Get Hitched in Georgetown” to showcase local businesses. Meaghan Calnan, BID spokesperson, said the purpose of planning the event was to show couples looking to get married that Georgetown has the “whole package.”

Last year’s competition was held in conjunction with Fashion’s Night Out, but this year’s event was moved to a separate date because it was so well-received last year. Calnan was impressed with the turn-out this year.

The sponsoring Georgetown Buisnesses were: Four Seasons Hotel, Haute Papier, Sequoia, Hugh & Crye, Sprinkles Cupcakes, Ritz-Carlton, Bacchus Wine Cellar, Morton’s the Steakhouse, duo, Urban Chic, Hitched Salon, Barre 3, Dandelion PatchGeorgetown Cupcake and Ella Rue.
