One Person Rescued from Potomac River After Falling Out of Canoe

At approximately 1:45 p.m. Tuesday several agencies reported to the scene of a person in the Potomac River in the area of the Kennedy Center. No one was harmed.

One person was rescued from the Potomac River after having fallen out of a canoe near the Kennedy Center Tuesday afternoon. Four people were involved in the incident which involved two canoes, according to D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Pete Piringer. Only one person actually fell into the river on the windy day that includes a coastal flood warning from the National Weather Service.

Piringer said several agencies were involved in the rescue effort including a D.C. Fire Boat, the Harbor Patrol, the Coast Guard and the National Park Service. The Coast Guard pulled the individual from the water.

Thompson Boat Center helped tow one of the canoes back to shore. It is still unclear whether or not the canoes were rented from Thompson's. The boater was evaluated by D.C. EMS, but was not transported to a local hospital.
