Snowy March Weather: Closings, Openings, Disappointments in Georgetown

There is actual snow falling the week when we were originally supposed to enjoy the snow-like presence of cherry blossom petals on the Tidal Basin.

Most offices in the DC region are open despite the late March snow, which is expected to continue throughout the morning without much accumulation in the District.

The National Weather Service says the snow will taper off with temperatures rising into the middle and upper 30s this afternoon.

This is the heaviest snow this late in the season since 1990, according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

ThePeerless Gee..the Feds are open today... and DC finally gets snow. If they were a bracket, they'd have picked Georgetown, Gonzaga, and SDSU

Cassidygal @Georgetown there is ACTUALLY snow on the ground and school is open. Yet you've cancelled for rain... Can We get a break? #dontwannacrash

Allie Prescott@Georgetown, I don't care that there's not much snow. The fact that it is MARCH 25 IN #DC AND SNOWING should be enough to cancel classes.

PatrickCurran @Georgetown any word on University operating status this morning? Snow starting to stick. We've closed for less.

Snowing Snow vs. Snowing Petals

When the National Park Service first announced the peak bloom for the cherry blossom trees, they predicted that this week, . Last week NPS revised that estimate, shifting the peak bloom to April 3-6.

Could they revise it a third time because of the snow? Patch will let you know as soon as we find out.
