Summer Camps in the D.C. Area

Help add to our list of great local summer camps.

It's that time of year again, planning for the summer. When school is out, it's time to keep the kids busy for the long summer days. Here's our list of summer camps recommended by our Moms Council, but we need your help to add to it!

Sports Camps

  •  Georgetown Visitation (in partnership with TenniStar) hosts six sports camps, beginning the week of June 13. Deadline for a 20 percent discount is March 1. The camps are:
  1. TenniStar, which is for boys and girls of all levels from ages 5-15, runs eight weeks beginning June 13. 
  2. SoccerStar runs for four weeks, three weeks for younger campers. The dates are June 20-24, June 27 through July 1, July 11-15, and July 18-22. Boys and girls ages 7-10 are in a morning-only camps; ages 10-14 are in an all-day camp.
  3. LaxStar starts June 20. The first week is for players of all levels from age 8-14. For the weeks of June 27-July 1 and July 18-22, the Elite program in the afternoon (12:30-3:30 pm) is for rising 8th graders and up.
  4. HoopStar basketball camp for rising 7th graders and up, girls only, is the week of June 27. Collegiate players will direct HoopStar for girls ages 10-15 during the week of June 20th.
  5. Star Field Hockey camp is for girls only, rising 8th graders and up. The one-week session starts July 11th and is from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  6. SportStar, designed for incoming Visitation freshmen and their girlfriends, introduces girls to the campus through sports and team-buiding exercises. The camp runs during the week of June 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Nike Tennis Camp at Georgetown: Full day and half day options for youth ages 8-17, Georgetown also offers half day options for ages 6-17. See the website for a program fitted for your child.
  • Peak Performance Swim Camp: Competitive touring swim camp for kids ages 7-18. Led by Coach Nick Baker holding camps this year in Manassas Park, VA Apr. 9-10 and July 4-8.
  • Yates Field House Summer Day Camp: comprehensive day-long activity camp for boys and girls, ages 6 to 10. The camp usually runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Arts Camps

  • All Fired Up Pottery Camp: One-week classes are offered all summer, beginning June 20 and ending the week of August 22. Kids paint their own pottery and have a sketch book that they will use to develop ideas throughout the week and then take home with them on Friday. There are half-day and full day options.
  • Fillmore Arts Camp: The arts camp offers two, three-week sessions for boys and girls ages 6-14. The center has an extensive visual and performing arts program, as well as classes in tennis, basketball, outdoor games and a swim period. See the website for more information.

Special Interest

ID Tech Computer Camps: Co-ed summer day camps and overnight campsvideo game design, Flash animation, programming, video editing, and more. Held at American University, dates vary depending on course choice. Classes are filling up quickly!
