Trash Collection to Start at 6 a.m. Tuesday and Friday

Trash and recycling crews will begin their collections an hour earlier, at 6 am, the week of July 18, due to predicted high temperatures.

In anticipation of temperatures of 90º F and higher, the Department of Public Works will collect trash beginning at 6 a.m. this week.

DPW has issued a notice that residents can put their trash and recyclables out for pick-up starting at 6 p.m. the night before their collections. For Georgetown residents that means Monday and Thursday evenings for Tuesday and Friday collection.

Throughout the summer, when the temperature is predicted to be 90˚ or higher or the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments announces unhealthy air quality (Code Orange or Code Red days), DPW collection crews will begin their work at 6 a.m. to avoid health or environmental issues.
