What Happened this Week in Georgetown?

A stroll down recent memory lane.

Life started to get back to a routine now that summer is unofficially over and schools have been back in session for a few weeks. Trying to keep up with the fast pace of our news and information world can be overwhelming, so here's a brief summary of what happened in the neighborhood this week:

News:

  • The DC Library announced that the Georgetown Interim Library would close and the historically restored Georgetown Neighborhood Library will re-open. There were be a gap in service between the Sept. 25 closing and the Oct. 18 opening.
  • Drivers can now turn left from M St. onto Wisconsin Ave. DDOT removed the no-turn sign and installed a new light with a green turn arrow. The change went into effect Sept. 9.

Events:

  • Participants in Fashion's Night Out feverishly prepared their shops for Georgetown's first year in the FNO event. The event will fill the streets this evening.
  • Thursday, Parisian Artist, Virginie Hoyaux, was at Georgetown's Poppy for an artists reception for her exhibition "Urban Space, Concentration and Vacuum." 
  • Wednesday, Georgetown University students organized a protest against one of the newest faculty members, Alvaro Uribe, the former president of Columbia.

Crime:

  • This week (Fri.-Thurs.) there were 19 instances of crime reported for PSA 206. Of those, 14 were theft, mostly from shops and restaurants. There was one incident of robbery at 31st St. and M St.; two cars were stolen; and there were two instances of assault with a dangerous weapon.
  • Police continue to investigate the sexual assault on the 3800 block of S St.
