What's Up With the Metro: Presidents' Day Weekend

A look at what you need to know about Metro this weekend.

Taking the Metro to get around this weekend? Here’s what to expect.

Orange Line

  • Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Monday, shuttle buses will replace Orange Line trains between Rosslyn and Virginia Square to allow for NTSB-recommended switch replacement near Clarendon.
  • Orange Line trains will operate in two segments: between Vienna and Virginia Square at normal weekend service levels, and between Rosslyn and New Carrollton at normal weekend service levels.
  • Customers traveling through the work zone should allow 20-30 minutes of additional travel time.
  • On Friday night, the last trains to operate through the area before work begins will be the 9:28 p.m. departure from Vienna and the 9:06 p.m. departure from New Carrollton.
  • The last train from Vienna will depart 20 minutes earlier than normal--at 2:07 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and at 11:07 p.m. on Sunday and Monday nights.  Last train times from New Carrollton will not change.

Blue Line

  • No scheduled work. Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule.

Red Line

  • Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Monday, shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between Medical Center and White Flint to allow for NTSB-recommended track circuit module replacement, rail fastener renewal, track maintenance and fiber optic cable work to improve cell phone coverage.
  • Red Line trains will operate in two segments: between Shady Grove and White Flint at normal weekend service levels, and between Medical Center and Glenmont at normal weekend service levels.
  • Customers traveling through the work zone should allow 20-30 minutes of additional travel time.
  • On Friday night, the last trains to operate through the area before work begins will be the 9:43 p.m. departure from Shady Grove and the 9:05 p.m. departure from Glenmont.
  • The last train from Shady Grove will depart 20 minutes earlier than normal--at 2:10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and at 11:10 p.m. on Sunday and Monday nights.  Last train times from Glenmont will not change.
