What's Up With the Metro: August 12-14

A look at what you need to know about Metro this weekend.

Planning to use the Metro to get around this weekend? Here’s what to expect.

Red Line – from 10 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Red Line trains will share one track between Grosvenor and Twinbrook stations for platform repairs.
  • Red Line trains will share one track between Takoma and Forest Glen stations to allow for train control replacement, cable installation, tie renewal and station upgrades.
  • Trains will depart endpoint terminals about every 24 minutes. On Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., additional trains will operate between Grosvenor and Fort Totten, resulting service about every 12 minutes between these stations.
  • Customers should allow about 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Blue and Orange Lines – from 10 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Orange and Blue Line trains will share one track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory stations as Metro replaces rail fasteners to provide a smoother ride.
  • In addition, Orange Line trains will share one track between Vienna and West Falls Church stations to allow for rail and tie renewal.
  • Throughout the weekend, Blue and Orange Line trains will depart endpoint terminals about every 24 minutes.
  • Customers should allow about 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Yellow Line – from 10 p.m., Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Yellow Line trains will share one track between Pentagon and L’Enfant Plaza stations for rail and tie renewal on the Metro bridge over the Potomac River.
  • Throughout the weekend, Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square stations approximately every 24 minutes.  (To travel beyond Mt. Vernon Square, customers should transfer to a Green Line train.)
  • Customers should allow about 20 minutes of additional travel time.
