What's Up With the Metro: July 9-11

A look at what you need to know about Metro this weekend.

Planning on catching the Metro to get around this weekend? Here’s what to expect.

Metro track work will begin around 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, and will continue through closing on Sunday, July 10. Customers should take note of the following service impacts: 

Red Line – 9:30 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday:

  • Red Line trains will share one track between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Twinbrook stations to allow for platform rehabilitation work at White Flint and Twinbrook stations.
  • Red Line trains will share one track between Takoma and Forest Glen stations to allow for upgrades to train control rooms and installation of new emergency phones.
  • Red Line trains will operate approximately every 24 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont stations.  On Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., additional Red Line trains will operate between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Fort Totten stations, resulting service about every 12 minutes between these stations.
  • Red Line customers should allow 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Blue and Yellow Lines – 10 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday:

  • Blue Line trains will share one track between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant stations as crews repair the floating slabs underneath the rails to provide a smoother ride.
  • Blue and Yellow Line trains will share one track between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street/Huntington stations as crews install new rail and related infrastructure.
  • Blue Line trains will depart Franconia-Springfield and Largo Town Center stations every 24 minutes.
  • Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center stations every 24 minutes.  (Yellow Line trains will not operate between Mt. Vernon Sq. and Fort Totten.)
  • Customers should allow 20 minutes of additional travel time.
