What's Up With the Metro: Sept. 16-18

A look at what you need to know about Metro this weekend.

Planning on catching the Metro to get around this weekend? Here’s what to expect.

This weekend, September 16-18, all Yellow Line trains will be rerouted over the Blue Line via Arlington Cemetery as Metro conducts annual bridge inspections over the Potomac River. In addition, Metro will advance important track work on the Blue, Orange and Red lines, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, September 16, and continuing through closing on Sunday, September 18.

Customers should take note of the following service impacts:

Yellow Line – 10 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Stadium-Armory stations via the Blue Line (through Arlington Cemetery and Rosslyn) to allow for inspection of the Yellow Line bridge.
  • Throughout the weekend, Yellow Line trains will depart endpoint terminals every 20 minutes.
  • The last Yellow Line train from Huntington station on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights will depart 15 minutes earlier than usual.
  • Customers should allow 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Blue Line – 10 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Blue Line trains will share one track between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road as crews make repairs to the floating slabs underneath the rails to provide a smoother ride.
  • Throughout the weekend, Blue Line trains will depart endpoint terminals every 20 minutes.
  • Customers should allow 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Orange Line – 10 p.m. Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Orange Line trains will share one track between Vienna and West Falls Church while personnel replace cross ties and insulators.
  • Throughout the weekend, Orange Line trains will depart endpoint terminals every 20 minutes.
  • Customers should allow 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Red Line – 10 p.m., Friday through closing on Sunday

  • Red Line trains will share one track between Shady Grove and Twinbrook as Metro conducts rail and infrastructure renewal work.
  • Red Line trains will share one track between Takoma and Forest Glen as Metro performs station platform upgrades.
  • Throughout the weekend, Red Line trains will operate approximately every 24 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont stations. On Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., additional Red Line trains will operate between Grosvenor and Fort Totten, resulting service about every 12 minutes between these stations.
  • Red Line customers should allow 20 minutes of additional travel time.
