Embassy of the Czech Republic, Georgetown University Unveil Václav Havel Memorial

The Embassy of the Czech Republic, in
collaboration with Georgetown University, the Václav Havel Library and American Friends of
the Czech Republic, unveil and dedicate Václav Havel’s Place, a new memorial to
the late Czech president, playwright and human rights advocate, on Georgetown’s
campus.

Events begin with distinguished guests examining President Havel’s life and
legacy in a panel discussion at Georgetown’s Gaston Hall. Panelists include
former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Professor Tomáš Halík from Charles
University in Prague. Havel’s widow and former First Lady of the Czech Republic
Dagmar Havlová will cut the ribbon at the
memorial, and VIPs will deliver remarks. A reception will follow in the Alumni
Square. Georgetown University theatre students will also perform short skits
throughout the day.
