End-of-Summer Ice Cream Sunday

On August 24, 1814, First Lady Dolley Madison fled the White House as British Troops advanced upon Washington, D.C. Her flight brought her to Dumbarton House, at the time the home of Charles Carroll of Bellevue.

Join us to commemorate Dolley's  flight to Dumbarton House. Guests will make their own ice cream, which Dolley help popularize in America, and  sample an ice cream flavor popular during the federal period. End your visit with a tour of Dumbarton House to learn about the history of early Georgetown and the Federal City.

Ice cream-making will be available fom 1-2pm. A guided tour of the home will commence at 2:15pm or you may take a self-guided tour at any time. Historic lawn games will be also be available throughout the day for children and the young at heart.
