Holiday Benefit show with Pesky J Nixon at Cat in the Cradle

[BYFIELD] Cat in the Cradle Coffeehouse is presenting a very special benefit show on Saturday, December 7 with Pesky J. Nixon, a local band that has as much fun on stage as the audiences does in their seats.  Bombastic yet brilliant, this band exudes a genuine musical authenticity and mirth on stages up and down the East Coast. Drawing influences from contemporary urban balladeers, rowdy southern bluegrass, and the sardonic yet wry wit of New England's localized folk scenes, Pesky J. Nixon creates an atmosphere both inviting and challenging for audiences. Compelling harmonies and narratives rein in disparate instrumentation including- zydeco style accordion, virtuosic mandolin, a variety of tribal percussion, and a myriad of string instrumentation.

The show at Cat in the Cradle will include Pesky J. Nixon and some special musical friends who will join them on stage.  Ethan Baird, guitarist and vocalist, is a new resident of nearby Newbury, MA.  The band is donating the proceeds of this concert to the SAMFund (Surviving and Moving Forward) which is a charity that helps young adult survivors of cancer get back on track with their lives after treatment.  Proceeds are also earmarked for Child’s Play which is an organization that brings games and electronics to hospitalized children to give them a way to communicate with the outside world and a way to keep themselves occupied during their challenging hospital stays.

Pesky J. Nixon has fast become favorites at many coffeehouses and folk music festivals in the Northeast.  Their two albums Monkey Business and Mislaid Hopes and Red Ducks have both charted on the Folk-DJ charts.  The band was chosen as Most Requested to Return at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival after being chosen to appear as Emerging Artists.  A panel of music industry judges chose them as Formal Showcasers at NERFA (North East Regional Folk Alliance) in 2012.  They’re currently writing new songs and preparing them for a new recording.

According to Ethan Baird from the band, "this benefit show will just be us and other close friends of ours having a ridiculously good time putting on our version of a 1960's Holiday Special.  It is a small venue but we have a full lighting setup and our partner Scott Jones (from Georgetown) running the technical side of things.”
