"If JFK Survived Dallas" - A One-Man Play, by Dennis McAndrews, Esq.

"If JFK Survived Dallas"

November, 2013 marked the 50th Anniversary of the tragic
death of President John F. Kennedy.  On
February 1, 2014, the Georgetown University Department of Government will
present “If JFK Survived Dallas,” an acclaimed one-man, one-act play written
and acted by Dennis McAndrews, Esquire. The play was selected in 2012 for
presentation at the Kennedy Summer School in New Ross, Ireland, the ancestral
home of the Kennedy family, and Mr. McAndrews recently performed the play on the
eve of the 50th Anniversary at the Martinez Fine Arts Center in Southeastern
Texas. Mr. McAndrews is a practicing civil rights attorney of 35 years and a
long-time instructor of Political Science at Villanova University.

“If JFK Survived Dallas” begins with Kennedy’s election in 1960, as the
nation’s youngest President and its first Catholic, and then addresses major
events in his presidency before November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.  The second half of the production presents
the author’s vision of Kennedy’s presidency and post-White House life if he had
been wounded but survived in Dallas.
Critical events after November, 1963 include the 1964 election,
Kennedy’s handling of the War in Vietnam, Civil Rights, Test Ban Treaty,
post-presidential disclosures of infidelities and concealment of health issues
during Kennedy’s presidency, and Kennedy’s private and public lives after leaving
the presidency.  The second half of the
show is filled with many surprises.

The play will be presented on February 1 at 8:00 p.m. at Georgetown’s
McNeir Auditorium. There is no charge to attend the event. Mark Rom, Associate
Professor of Georgetown’s Department of Government, and Director of Georgetown’s
Master’s Degree Program in American Government is spearheading the event at
Georgetown.
