Who Says Georgetown Needs Metro?

One if by land two if by...

Ok, sometimes I wish a magical Metro stop would appear in Georgetown but we all know that will never happen. That leaves us with driving, biking, busing, or walking to the nearest Metro stop. But not for long. Pretty soon you will be able to take a boat to the metro. Yes, you heard right, a boat!

American River Taxi, DC’s yellow water taxi service, currently has three stops; Georgetown, the SW Waterfront, and Washington Harbor at Nationals Stadium. Plans for next year include stops in Virginia and Maryland. But what takes this water taxi service over the top is the shuttle service that will take passengers from the docks directly to the closest Metro stops.

American River Taxi has even developed their very own version of the SmartTrip farecard. Kiosks placed around the city will allow riders to purchase tickets, find out when the next boat is scheduled to arrive, and add money to membership cards.

I can’t wait for the day when my work commute will begin with a walk down Wisconsin Avenue to the Waterfront and include a boat ride down the Potomac.

For those interested in less commuter water taxi and want more of a guided tour check out Capital Yacht Charters.
