New Peabody Room Donation

Georgetown's repository of history acquires new artifact.

The Peabody Room's Georgetown sign collection grew by one this morning with the donation of this wonderful sign.  The donor found it in the late 1970s on the abandoned Glen Echo trolley line right-of-way.  The "bridge" is the trestle (still... there) over Glover Archbold Park between the western border of Georgetown University and Foxhall Road.  The sign was found partly buried at the east (Georgetown end) of the trestle.  Two photos of the Foxhall Road trestle may be seen at http://humealumni.org/trolley.html and a short video of what it was like to ride this line is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD1M_6Fg_-c
