Rose Park and Frida Burling, Neighborhood Jewels

Rose Park Fundraiser to honor Frida Burling on October 6th.

is one of the jewels of the neighborhood for those of us who live in the East Village. Next week we can all join together at a fun party at an interesting location. And for a good cause, our beloved Rose Park, which has filled our community with charming young couples who choose living here so their kiddies can play in close to home.

With its tennis courts, ball field, tot lot and open green space, this has become a magnet for the delightful young families now living here. But this park needs care and improvements, hence our upcoming benefit on Thursday, Oct. 6th, only a week away.

When Pamela and Averill Harriman were living in Georgetown, their active social and political life needed more space than one house could provide and they added the next-door house, 3032 N Street. This will be the setting for our with many thanks to the generosity of the present owner, Dr. James D'Orta.

The house has been carefully restored and features many architectural details that make it a one-of-a-kind home in Georgetown. Come at 6:30 p.m. to see this fascinating house and to join with your friends and neighbors to celebrate Rose Park. As an added benefit, it is rumored that Honorary Host and former activist Friends of Rose Park Board member, Frida Burling, now 96 years old, hopes to be there - she says as her last public appearance.

If you have never met Mrs. Burling, it is worth the price of admission to this party just to bask in her warm smile and to experience the grace and charm of another jewel of Georgetown. She has been an important force for good in our neighborhood and it will be an honor to have her with us. I don't want you to miss this event!
