Nelson Mandela Dies at 95, Immortalized at D.C. Embassy

Nelson Mandela passed away three months after the unveiling of his statue at the Embassy of South Africa.

Nelson Mandela passed away at 95 on Thursday, according to world news coverage. 

BBC reported that he "had been receiving intense home-based medical care for a lung infection after three months in hospital." 

Mandela's death comes three months after the South African Embassy unveiled a statue, immortalizing the first South African president and Nobel Peace Prize winner. 

"No words can adequately describe this enormous loss to our nation and to the world," Haba Kahle Madiba said in a Nelson Mandela Foundation release. "We give thanks for his life, his leadership, his devotion to humanity and humanitarian causes."
