Burglaries Decrease Across Second District, Robberies Increase

Georgetown experienced crime rates similar to the Second District as a whole

Crime across the Second District decreased by 12 percent in the last 30 days compared to the same period last year, .

Property crime, including burglaries, dipped by 15 percent this month compared to last year, but violent crimes like roberries increased by 20 percent in that same period.

In Georgetown's poice service area (PSA) 206, the numbers mirror increases and decreases throughout the police district.

The number of robberies in PSA206 doubled from two to four, compared to last year. Patch asked Second District Cmdr. Michael Reese about two notable robberies last month, . Reese said that both cases remain open.

Three fewer burglaries (11 last year compared to eight this year) marked a 27 percent decrease in that category. Reese credited that in part to unspecified policing tactics he instituted last year. He also said better communication with residents about open windows and locked doors have helped reduce crimes of opportunity.
