Foggy Bottom and Dupont Account for Low Percentage of Metro Crime

Combined the two stations nearest Georgetown account for just one percent of the system's crimes.

The two metro stations nearest to Georgetown, Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle, together accounted for just over one percent of system-wide crime in 2011, according to a new Metro Security Report. Last year, Metro saw an 18.2 percent year-over-year reduction in crime on buses and in its 86 metro stations in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Part I (violent and property) crimes tallied for the report were: Aggravated Assault, Homicide,  Larceny, Motor Vehicle Theft, Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft, Rape/Sexual Offenses and Robbery.

Among the 37 D.C. stations on the crime report, Dupont ranked 23rd with 15 crimes and Foggy Bottom ranked 26th with 10 crimes. System-wide, Dupont ranked 41st and Foggy Bottom 51st.

The most crime-ridden station in both D.C. and system-wide is Deanwood in Northeast D.C., just over the Maryland state line. Though, according to Metro, "the probability of being a victim of a Part I crime in the Metrorail system is 5.61 per million riders."
