In Case You Missed It: Georgetown Garage Burglary Raises Concerns, Matches Familiar Pattern

Police put additional patrols in place.

A burglar broke into a garage and stole from three vehicles on the 3000 block of Q Street NW during the night. It was discovered on Saturday morning, police said.

The incident was the second garage burglary in one week.

The burglar broke into one car parked in front of the garage and used the remote garage-door opener from that car to get inside, police said.

Once in the garage, the burglar stole from the two cars that were parked there and took a bicycle.

This isn't the first time police have seen a burglary like this in Georgetown, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. John Hedgecock said.

"This offense is similar to a string of burglaries we experienced in the summer and fall in Georgetown," police said. "Arrests were made in a few of those offenses, and we're checking to see if possibly one of those individuals may have been released."

In the meantime, police are "devoting additional resources to the area," Hedgecock said.

Police remind residents to conceal or remove remote garage-door openers from parked cars.
