Intruder Repelled on O Street

A man tried to force his way into a residence on the 2700 block of O Street on Wednesday evening.

A man tried to force his way into a home on the 2700 block of O Street on Wednesday around 7 p.m., but the two residents were able to keep him out, according to an email circulated by neighborhood watch.

Patch attempted to corroborate details of the incident with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, but police have not been able to respond to those requests. There was a report on the MPD daily crime report of a burglary on the 2700 block of O Street just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, but it is not clear if this is the same crime.

According to the neighborhood watch email, the man rang the doorbell, claimed to have an item of importance, and convinced the homeowner to open the door.

The suspect then tried to push his way into the home, but the two residents were able to keep the intruder out. He allegedly threatened to kill them as they pushed him out of their home. The victims called police, but the man escaped and remains at large.

In the email, Citizen Association of Georgetown Block Captain Coordinator Diane Colasanto offered safety tips:

"Please warn your neighbors NOT to open the door for anyone they don't know who cannot show proper ID.  If anyone at the door claims to have a package or mail, they should just ask the person to leave it outside or slip it through the mail slot."
