Man Arrested for Attempted Sexual Assault and Kidnapping in Georgetown

The incident happened in the 2600 block of O Street NW early Monday morning, according to police.

Police arrested a man Monday and charged him with a kidnapping and attempted sex assault in connection with an incident in the 2600 block of O Street NW in Georgetown, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

According to police, a woman was walking in the 2600 block of O Street around 4 a.m. Monday when a man grabbed her from behind, "forced her to an area nearby and attempted to sexually assault her."

Second District MPD officers on patrol spotted and arrested Matthew Gabramadhin, 23, of Springfield, Va. Monday, charging him in connection with kidnapping and assault with intent to commit first-degree sex abuse.

A police report indicates that the incident happened in a "park/playground" and Rose Park is located at 2600 O Street.

Patch inquired whether Monday's incident was related to recent reports of a man exposing himself to women in the area of Rose Park near Rock Creek Park, close to where Monday's incident happened.

"MPD Detectives are currently investigating these incidents to determine if they are related," Officer David Sledge responded in an email.
