Updated: Man Rescued After Fall Down Embankment in Rock Creek Park

D.C. Fire and EMS transported a man in his early 20s to a nearby hospital

The man rescued from the edge of Rock Creek near Georgetown had apparently fallen at some point Tuesday night and was discovered Wednesday morning by a passerby, according to D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman, Pete Piringer.

Just after 8:30 a.m. a passerby called in a report of an injured person. When D.C. Fire and EMS crews arrived on the scene, they "realized they needed some help to extract him," according to Piringer.

A technical rescue team was called in to help secure and mobilize the man, who had fallen 30 to 35 feet, said Piringer.

He appeared to have suffered a serious but non-life threatening back injury and was transported to the nearest hospital.

A man fell 20 to 30 feet down an embankment at 26th Street and Pennsylvania in the Georgetown section of Rock Creek Park just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to the D.C. Fire and EMS twitter feed.

The man has since been rescued by D.C. Fire and EMS personnel who used ropes and rigging. 

EMS personnel are evaluating the man whose injuries do not seem serious, according to D.C. Fire and EMS on twitter.
