New Accident at National Cathedral, Crane Operator Released from Hospital Wednesday

Washington National Cathedrals have not released information about a second accident Thursday involving workers and the collapsed crane.

The operator of a crane that was released from the hospital with minor injuries Wednesday night, but another worker was injured Thursday working on the same crane.

DC Alert issued a notice about the Thursday incident just before 3 p.m.

The alert read: "FEMS reports a crane incident at the National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue NW. Workers were conducting recovery operations on a previously damaged crane and a worker was injured. FEMS is on the scene. DDOT and OSHA have been notified."

Cathedral officials have not released any additional information on the Thursday incident.

They did however, provide an update on the accident Wednesday in a news release. According to a statement from officials, the crane was working on the south side of the Cathedral to stabilize debris from the August 23 earthquake. The crane fell over during a rain storm and the operator suffered minor injuries, was treated, and was released from the hospital last night.

The Cathedral itself did not sustain any additional damage during the incident. The Herb Cottage, a gift shop on the grounds, and Church House, the headquarters of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, did sustain some minor damages.
