Officer of the Month: Miriam Wishnick

Second District Officer Miriam Wishnick was honored Wednesday.

Commander Michael Reese presented Second District Officer Miriam Wishnick with the Officer of the Month Award at the Citizens Advisory Council Meeting Wednesday.

Wishnick responded to a suspicious parking violation reported by a alert citizen. She investigated the violation with two other officers.

In the process of checking out the suspicious vehicle, Wishnick said she came into contact with several individuals who provided information about a house in the area that was selling narcotics.

She said she did some "digging" and eventually gathered enough information to approach the Assistant United States Attorney's office.

She eventually worked the case to the point where she was given the go-ahead to "bust down the door" of the house.

Inside MPD discovered six pounds of marijuana, various Schedule IV narcotics, such as valium, drug paraphernalia and $35,000 in U.S. currency.

She is hoping that at least some of that money can return to MPD to fill much-needed gaps in the police budget.

Wishnick called the incident a “prime example of how the police and the community can work together.”
