Police: Driver Knifed 2 Passengers in Georgetown

Secret Service agents arrested the driver.

The man taken into custody by Secret Service agents after a knifing incident near the Georgetown waterfront was the driver of a for-hire car the victims had entered for a ride, according to news reports.

The driver, Yohannes Getahun Deresse, is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, according to The Washington Post.

Four people had gotten into a Lincoln Town car driven by Deresse, but they quickly exited because of his  "aggressive manner" manner, The Post reported, citing court papers.

An argument and then a fight ensued, the paper reported, and Deresse stabbed one man twice in the chest and once in the right arm. A second person was cut on a finger when he tried to intervene.

The incident occurred in the 3000 block of K Street.

A D.C. Superior Court judge ordered Deresse released and to stay away from the victims, the Post reported.
