Police Investigate String of Georgetown Robberies

Contact Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department with any information about the Georgetown robberies on Nov.12.

A string of robberies took place on residential streets throughout the Georgetown area between the evening of Nov.11 and the evening of Nov.12, reported the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. Georgetown residents are baffled and concerned.

Retired police officer Marcello Muzzati said he walks the neighborhood regularly looking for suspicious activity and rarely sees anything of concern, leaving him confused by crime spells.

"I don't understand how we are having so many," Muzzati said.

The first of four thefts took place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Nov.12 when a blue Bridgestone mountain bike was reported as stolen from a house on the 3500 block of Reservoir Road NW. The door to the home was left unlocked, police said.

The next robbery occurred between 9:30 p.m. on Nov.11 and 11 a.m. on Nov.12 when the front passenger window of a car parked on the 3500 block of Ingomar Place NW was broken and $1 in coins was taken from the car, police said.

Another robbery happened between 2 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. on Nov.12 when an iPad was reported as stolen from the glove box of an unlocked car that was left unattended on the 5400 block of Brood Branch Road for about 10 minutes, police said.

The last theft was reported around 4 p.m. on Nov. 12 when a neighbor of a home on the 4500 block of Davenport St. NW noticed a broken window while out walking his dog. Police reported finding a broken window and door near the kitchen at the back of the house. The unoccupied home had been ransacked, police said.

Officer John Hedgecock said police are currently investigating the crimes but have no descriptions for possible suspects.

"It's only going to take one call to find the person who's doing this," Muzzati said.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the incidents to call (202) 730-1903.
