Police Seek Owner of Possibly Stolen Bike

Police are seeking the owner of a bike that was possibly stolen in or near Georgetown over the weekend.

Police received a call Sunday about "suspicious subjects riding on bikes and possibly observing houses" on the 2900 block of Olive Street, according to an email on the Second District MPD listserv. When officers responded, the bike riders took off, but police were able to apprehend one of them.

According to the email:

"The subjects fled the scene on the bikes and one was apprehended a few blocks away. The subject had in his possession a pair of bolt cutters that was possibly used to cut the locks to take that bike in the neighborhood. The bike was confiscated and taken to the 2nd District and held for safekeeping."

However, there was no evidence or witness to confirm that the bike was stolen or a crime committed.

Police are now seeking to determine if the bike was stolen and to return the bike to its owner, if it was.

In the email police ask:

"If you know anyone that had a bike stolen in the area possibly yesterday, please contact the 2nd District on 202-715-7300 and give a description of the bike. If you filed a police report, give the report number to the clerk and they can help assist you to verify if your bike was recovered."
