String of Recent Robberies Involved Weapons
Second District Police warn neighbors to 'be aware' and 'choose your walking routes wisely.'
A string of recent armed robberies in the Second Police District have police warning residents to be alert and careful when walking through their Northwest neighborhoods.
In a note on the Second District listserv, Lt. Alan Hill said the recent criminal activity was unlike previous crime sprees in that thieves were no longer only targeting iPhones; they are taking everything they can get their hands on and using weapons to get it.
Previously groups of three or four suspects targeted women walking alone, now they are less discriminating.

"These latest incidents differ in that one or two armed suspects approach, man, woman or group as long as they are in quiet dimly lit, sparsely populated areas," wrote Hill.
Over the course of one night this past weekend there were three armed robberies in the Second District: 2500 Block of Porter St., NW, 5300 Block of 39th St., NW and in the alleyway of the 3600 block of Warren St., NW.

The robberies have, thus far, not impacted Georgetown's police service area (PSA206), according to crime reports posted on the MPD listserv.
"We continue to urge residents to be aware of their surroundings and choose your walking routes wisely," concluded Hill.
On twitter, Ward 3 Council member Mary Cheh called the increase "disturbing" and invited concerned neighbors to attend the ANC3E meeting Thursday where Second District Commander Michael Reese will be on hand. The meeting planned for Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at St Mary's Church at 4125 Fessenden St., NW.
