Thwarted Burglary and Cocaine Bust Earn Officers Praise

Metropolitan Police Department Officer Darryl Grooms and Vice Officer Mario Crmaric were the officers of the month for October.

An officer who stopped an in-progress burglary while the victims were home and another officer who caught a drug pusher received titles of Officer of the Month for October and Officer of the Year in their respective units.

Metropolitan Police Department Officer Darryl Grooms responded to the burglary in which the residents were at home. He was recognized at the Second District Citizens Advisory Council (2D CAC) meeting as the Officer of the Month.

Grooms "stopped a burglary and saved the lives of the owners, who had heard the burglars, locked themselves in an upstairs bathroom and called MPD," according to George Corey, 2D CAC Chair.

He was also PSA 203 Officer Of the Year, an award presented at the recent Second District banquet.

Vice Officer Mario Crmaric "caught a drug pusher and retrieved a sizable amount of cocaine," according to Corey.

Crmaric was also Vice Officer of the Year.
