Female Contractor Dies After Construction Accident at Georgetown University

Pete Piringer from D.C. Fire and EMS confirmed that the female construction worker succumbed to her injuries sustained while working at Georgetown University.

Piringer said the call came in a little after 8 a.m. and when the EMS team arrived on the scene, fellow construction workers were performing CPR on the woman. Piringer said the woman had injuries consistent with the events described by workers on the scene: she was operating a platform lift and became pinned between an overhead railing and scaffolding. Her coworkers had brought her down by the time Fire and EMS arrived.

WTOP is reporting that the woman who sustained serious injuries on the construction site at has died. The woman was a contractor on the construction of the new science center managed by Whiting Turner, according to Rachel Pugh, the director of media relations at the University.

The woman sustained traumatic injuries when she was pinned under a forklift this morning. She was transported to George Washington University Hospital, according to Pugh.

Pugh could not confirm whether or not work continued, but said it was unlikely as MPD and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.

D.C. Fire and EMS is reporting that a female construction worker suffered a traumatic injury while working at Georgetown University's Leavey Center. The worker was pinned under a forklift at an underground work site at 3800 Reservoir Rd NW. She has been transported to a hospital as a priority one with serious, life-threatening injuries.
