Accused Murderer Begins Second Month of Hunger Strike

The man has followed through with a planned hunger strike.

At a preliminary hearing Nov. 18, Albrecht Muth told Judge Russell F. Canan that he would begin an "unlimited fast" on Nov. 20. The D.C. Department of Corrections confirmed the inmate has made good on that promise.

"Inmate Muth is on a hunger strike. He is monitored daily by medical staff, receives daily meals, nutritional supplements as well as nutrient rich fluids," wrote Sylvia Lane, a spokeswoman for Department of Corrections, in an email to Patch.

The strike started more than one month ago. The department did not immediately return a request for information about the current status of Muth's health or any medical concerns related to the hunger strike.
