ANC: DDOT "Out of Tweaks" for Wisconsin Avenue

Georgetown ANC wants northbound traffic lane added to Wisconsin Avenue.

Georgetown's Advisory Neighborhood Commission formally called on the District Department of Transportation and the District Council to restore a northbound traffic lane to Wisconsin Avenue NW, undoing part of the recent Wisconsin Avenue Streetscape.

DDOT has made several changes to alleviate traffic on Wisconsin Avenue, which has many northbound drivers frustrated with its slower traffic pattern after renovations completed last fall.

But ANC2E Commissioner Ron Lewis said none of the changes, from traffic light timing to the 37th and Tunlaw redesign has had a "material impact" on the traffic.

"They are out of tweaks,” said Lewis.

Georgetown's ANC passed a resolution calling on DDOT, or if not DDOT, then the District Council to restore a northbound travel lane between Whitehaven Parkway NW and Calvert Street NW on Wisconsin Avenue.

"Nothing that DDOT has tried to date to alleviate the congestion has worked in the observation of ANC commissioners and many members of our community," stated the resolution passed Monday.

Councilwoman Mary Cheh has organized a public oversight hearing to address the ongoing concerns about the Wisconsin Avenue Streetscape Project. The meeting will be Oct. 30 at 11 a.m.in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building.
