Anthony Williams Asked to Search for New DC CFO

DC CFO Natwar Gandhi will resign effective June 1.

Mayor Vincent Gray has asked former Mayor Anthony Williams and former control board Chair Alice Rivlin to lead the search for candidates to replace Dr. Natwar M. Gandhi as the DC Chief Financial Officer, according to a press release from the mayor's office.

Ghandi announced earlier in February that he plans to retire June 1. Williams, who served two terms as DC mayor, appointed Ghandi to the CFO position in 2000.

“Finding an experienced, highly qualified CFO is essential to the continued fiscal health of the District and its ability to finance needed investment, and I am honored Mayor Gray has asked me to help lead the search,” Dr. Rivlin said in the press release.

When Ghandi announced his departure, Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans expressed concerns over the departure of the District's conservative economic steward.

Though he noted the search "presents an opportunity to bring in a new perspective in furthering our financial stability and future growth."
