41st and Calvert Street NW

A no parking zone near this stop prevents the bus from stopping up against the curb, according to the ANC email. There is another stop slight farther east on the same block of Calvert Street.

Were this stop to be removed, passenger would have to walk an addition block to the nearest stop, but DDOT might be able to add a few more residential parking spaces on Calvert Street NW.

39th Street NW south of Davis Place NW

This stop is also in close proximity to another active bus stop on 39th Street before Calvert Street NW, which is within walking distance. According to the ANC a second bus stop on 39th Streets and Calvert Street with a bus shelter will be retained.

Idling

Buses have created ad-hoc places to layover near Stoddert ELementary because there is no designated layover space nearby. Concerns over the safety of children near these buses prompted WMATA and DDOT to offer two possible  solutions.

2500 block of 41st Street NW

The first proposed solution would create a time-restricted layover zone for buses on the 2500 block of 41st Street NW. This layover zone would be an extension of an existing bus zone created by a stop at the corner of 41st Street and Davis Place NW. This option would result in the loss of three (3) residential parking spaces during operational hours of the D1 route only, which are 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday, according to the ANC notice.

Tunlaw Road NW adjacent to the Russian Embassy

DDOT would allow buses to layover in the morning in an unused area on Tunlaw Road. It would be implemented on a trial basis, but if nearby residents do not voice any concerns during this trial period, then this layover option will be extended for an indefinite period.

Since there is no parking allowed on the curb space adjacent to the entrance of the Russian Embassy, no residential parking spaces would be lost.
