Coast Guard To Close Georgetown Waterways For SOTU

The U.S. Coast Guard will enforce closed waterways near Georgetown during the president's State of The Union Address Tuesday night. 

Starting at 4 p.m. and ending at 2 a.m., the coast guard will enforce a security zone, limiting or prohibiting commercial or recreational use of the waterways. 

The zone includes the Georgetown Tidal Basin, the Potomac River from the Key Bridget to about two miles north of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and the Anacostia River from the 11th Street Bridge to the Potomac River, a U.S. Coast Guard statement said. 

"Entering or operating in the security zone is prohibited unless authorized by the captain of the port of Baltimore. Vessels already at berth, mooring or anchor at the time the security zone is implemented are not required to depart the security zone," the statement said. 

The U.S. Capitol Police will also be closing several areas in D.C.

The following area will be restricted to event credentialed and authorized pedestrians only beginning at6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014:

• First Street between Constitution Avenue, NW and Independence Avenue, SW

• Independence Avenue between First Street, SW and First Street, SE

• First Street between Independence Avenue, SE and Constitution Avenue, NE

• Constitution Avenue between First Street, NE and First Street, NW

Road Closures

The U.S. Capitol Police will put the following road closures (affecting vehicular traffic) into effect onTuesday, January 28, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. and will lift these restrictions upon conclusion of the event:

o C Street, NE between 2nd Street, NE & Louisiana Avenue, NW
