Community, Georgetown Seek Joint Campus Plan Filing

Georgetown University and the neighborhood organizations standing in opposition to the school's 10-year campus plan could reach an agreement. The seemingly impossible could still happen.

In a letter sent to the Zoning Commission on Monday, the university, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2E, the Citizens Association of Georgetown and the Burleith Citizens Association requested additional time to try to reach an agreement and file jointly.

In April to "facilitate in-depth discussions and negotiations."

"The parties are pleased to report that the additional time has been and continues to be productive," the joint letter said.

Under the proposed new schedule, the parties would file a joint report by June 18.

Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Ron Lewis said once "an agreement in principle is reached, it will be put for comment by the community."

Lewis said the ANC would schedule a special public meeting to allow for feedback by residents.

"We’ll air it out thoroughly," he said. The meeting would take place before the June 18 deadline.

At the conclusion of the June 4 letter, the parties wrote, "We greatly appreciate the Commission's consideration and the opportunity that the Commission is providing for the parties to reach a common understanding."
