Congressman to DC: If City Wants Representation, Join Maryland

Congressman made his remarks Wednesday at groundbreaking for new Trump hotel.

A Republican congressman suggested this week that not only should DC not become a state, but that if it wants representation, officials ought to think about making the District part of Maryland.

“I think one of the things we might consider is giving back most of the District [of Columbia] to Maryland, just keep the public buildings in the District and possibly disband the D.C. Council,” Republican Congressman John Mica of Florida told Fox 5.

But he didn't stop there. He also insulted President Obama in his remarks to the TV station, made at the groundbreaking Wednesday of Donald Trump's luxury DC hotel.

“I think the president must be spending too much time in Colorado because you would have to be high to think that Congress or anyone else is going to support making the District of Columbia the 51st state,” Mica told the TV station.
