DC Special Election: Where to Vote, Voting Hours and More

April 23 is a special election to vote for a new at-large member of the District Council.

Today voters go to the polls to elect the next at-large member of the District Council, filling the seat vacated when Councilman Phil Mendelson became Council Chairman.

Where to Vote

Georgetown East Village residents who normally vote in Precinct 5 at Christ Church will be voting at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library, 3260 R St. NW, on April 23. The polling location was one of seven across the District that changed locations for the special election.

Georgetown West Village and Burleith residents will vote at Precinct 6, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, 3500 R St. NW.

Glover Park residents vote at Guy Mason Recreation Center, 3600 Calvert St. NW.

The following frequently asked questions and answers come from the Board of Elections and Ethics website:

Question: What are the voting hours for the April 23, 2013 Special Election?

Answer: The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Any voter who is standing in line by 8:00 p.m. may cast a ballot.

Question: Who can vote?

Answer: Any registered voter in the District of Columbia at least 18 years of age is eligible to vote in the April 23, 2013 Special Election. In addition, all District Residents who are at least 18 years of age can register to vote at their polling place on Election Day.

Question: Is it too late to register or change my address?

Answer: No, the District of Columbia offers same-day change of address and voter registration. To register at the polls, you will need to show proof of residence such as a driver’s license, government check or paycheck, lease, utility bill, bank statement or government document showing your name and address in the District.

Question: What are the contests on the ballot?

Answer: There are two city-wide contests on the ballot: The At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia and the proposed Local Budget Autonomy Charter Amendment VIII.

Question: How many candidates are on the ballot for the At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia contest?
Answer: While seven candidates are on the ballot for the At-Large Member of the Council contest, only six of those candidates are viable. One candidate, Michael A. Brown, Democrat, withdrew his candidacy on Monday, April 8, 2013.
