Gray Approves Taxicab Fuel Surcharge

A $1 surcharge will be added to all taxicab fares in the District, starting today.

It was only a matter of time. As fuel prices edge up slowly, but surely, taxicab drivers have been feeling the pain. Mayor Gray authorized a $1 fuel surcharge for all taxicab rides within the District of Columbia starting today.

The fuel surcharge will only affect taxicab fares for service provided within the District of Columbia and does not apply to interstate fares. It will expire on July 25, 2011, 120 days after its effective date.
