Grosso Beat Out Brown for At-Large Seat, Orange Re-elected

David Grosso (I) ousted incumbent Councilman Michael Brown (I) from his seat on the District Council and incumbent Vincent Orange (D) hung on to his seat, which he won in a special election.

Voters in Georgetown and Glover Park voted in step with District voters in selecting Grosso over a field of at-large candidates. In the West Village and Glover Park, the candidate with the second most votes was Orange, but in the East Village Republican Mary Brooks Beatty (R) garnered more support than Orange.

In an email to supporters sent Wednesday, Gross wrote:

"This election shows that the time is now for a new day in D.C. politics.  Voters have made a statement that they are ready for D.C. to move forward to the next level of greatness. We are the Nation’s Capital and residents deserve open and responsive politics that allows every voice to be heard. We deserve comprehensive school reform that ensures every child and young person has access to quality education, preventive health services and a safe learning environment so they can thrive as adults and engaged citizens. I am ready and prepared to lead D.C. forward to a new day."

Brown sent Grosso a message on twitter Tuesday night, "Congratulations on the election. I tried to call you. Left a message. Wish u well."
