Heat Advisory in Effect, Hit Up the Pools

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the D.C. region, temperatures are expected to be in the mid-90s for Monday and Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the District of Columbia from noon Monday until 8 p.m. Tuesday. The combination of temperatures in the mid-to-upper-90s and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

The D.C. government recommends the following precautions during a heat advisory:

1. If you don’t have air-conditioning, arrange to spend at least parts of the day in shopping malls,  museums, theatres, or other public spaces that are cool.

2. Wear loose fitting, lighter colored clothing. Take a ride on metro rail or bus which are air conditioned.

3. Remember that the elderly, infants and those with chronic illnesses can dehydrate more easily and are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

4. Don’t forget that pets also need protection from dehydration and heat-related illnesses too.

5. Spend time at local pools.
