High Temps Mean Earlier Trash Collection

The Department of Public Works will begin collection at 6 a.m.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) will start trash collection at 6 a.m. for the remainder of the week in anticipation of high temperatures during normal service hours.

Starting work an hour earlier helps crews "avoid health or environmental issues" on days when the temperature and heat index are predicted to be above 90 degrees, according to a press release from DPW. The National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for the region from noon until 8 p.m.

Trash may be placed on the curb starting at 6 p.m. the day before collection. Trash and recycling containers have to be removed by 8 p.m. on collection day.
