Jack Evans Backs Anita Bonds in April Special Election

The April 23 special election will fill the At-large seat on the District Council vacated by now Chairman Phil Mendelson.

Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans has endorsed Anita Bonds for the At-large seat on the DC Council, The Washington Post reports.

Bonds is serving as the interim At-large councilwoman prior to the special election to permanently fill the seat on April 23.

Evans told The Washington Post that Bonds is “best for the job."

A media advisory from Bonds' office quotes a prepared statement from Evans in which he describes her as "tough but diplomatic, a doer not a talker."

The seat was vacated when Phil Mendelson became the Council Chairman and Bonds was appointed to the position in December by the DC Democratic State Committee, of which she was the chairwoman at the time.
