Leaders Likely to Announce Campus Plan Agreement Wednesday

The Mayor and ANC have recently hinted that the two sides were close to a solution

Mayor Vincent Gray, University Officials and Neighborhood leaders will meet at 36th and P Streets Wednesday for a "major announcement" on the Georgetown University Campus Plan.

In all liklihood the Mayor will stand flanked by University President John DeGioia and ANC Commissioner Ron Lewis to announce that the parties have agreed to a Campus Plan.

The press notice Tuesday reads, "Mayor Vincent. C. Gray, Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia, and ANC 2E Commissioner Ron Lewis will make a major announcement regarding Georgetown University's campus plan and engagement with neighborhood and city leaders."

Monday, the University and parties in opposition to the plan requesting an extension until June 18 to allow for a joint filing; a sign that an agreement was close.

The protracted campus plan hearings and discussions changed course in April when both sides to "facilitate in-depth discussions and negotiations."

In the June 4th letter, they wrote that "the additional time has been and continues to be productive."

to the ongoing Georgetown University Campus Plan negotiations during the Citizens Association of Georgetown (CAG) annual meeting last Wednesday.

"What a great victory that would be for everybody if everybody could come together and find a way to solve this issue with the campus plan," remarked Gray last week.

During an ANC meeting Monday, Lewis said that when any agreement was reached, the ANC would schedule a special public meeting to allow for feedback by residents.

"We’ll air it out thoroughly," he said. The meeting would take place before the June 18 deadline.

The press release Tuesday, pointed to the Mayor and other District leaders for their roles in the negotiations: "District leaders have been working closely over the last several months to bring Georgetown University officials and Georgetown neighborhood leaders together regarding the school’s campus plan."

The announcement will take place Wednesday, June 6 at 2:30 p.m. on P Street at 36th Street, NW.
