Mayor Gray Testifies Before House Oversight Committee, Calls for D.C. Budget Autonomy

'The financial rigor the District exhibits proves that we are more than capable of managing our own resources.'

Mayor Vincent Gray testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s Subcommittee on the District of Columbia Thursday about the District's budget.

Along with Council Chairman Kwame Brown, Chief Financial Officer Dr. Natwar Gandhi and former Control Board Chairperson Dr. Alice Rivlin, Gray said D.C. had proven its commitment to fiscal responsibility over the last 14 years and deserved budget autonomy.

In a press release Gray said he was "encouraged" that Republicans recognized the Distirct's sound financial management. Gray said that Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and other committee leaders are willing to work toward increased budget autonomy for the D.C.
